Not so simple question. You refer to the people who constructs pyramids, temples, stelaes, follows the mayan calendar and rites, read and writes in folded books...? The today Maya people are surrounded by a different and aggressive cultural reality. Your work to separate the "folklore thing" from what has received external influences will be complex enough.
