In the north of Peru German archaeologists and Peruvians discovered a
gigantic complex of around 5.500 years. It is located in Sechín Bajo, in the
valley of the Casma (located to 370 kilometers to the north of Lima).
The archaeology professor and ambassador from Peru in Germany, Federico
Kauffmann-Doig informed in press conference that it is a revolutionary and
exceptional discovery for the date so old". AND he added that now they
should discover what function he had the complex.
The director of the project of Low Sechín and German archaeologist of the
University Free of Berlin, Peter Fuchs, detailed that the area d excavations
sandal a surface of 30 hectares with constructions of several times, the
most recent of 3.600 years ago.
Fuchs indicated that the construction was lifted about 5.500 years ago, it
has round patios that found in the inferior strata of the excavations. This
complex can be considered the oldest monumental architecture in the central
Andean space", the investigator added.
On the inferior strata it was erected later on (between the years 2100 and
1600 aC) an open, almost square building, of between 35 and 40 meters.
He/she has nine aligned rooms that the archaeologists believe that they
could have some ritual function.
Almost embedded to that building he/she is the most interesting discovery in
the complex: a stone construction and adobe of 125 for 150 meters in good
conservation state that contains four on-line and descending interior patios
from the smallest, up, to the biggest, in the inferior part. This last one,
that of more size and with walls of some 5 meters high covered with adobe,
he/she opens up to a square of about 20.000 square meters.
The excavation of that patio has also taken out to the light reliefs of
great size in its walls, only in the region, with figures in front position
that you/they have the open arms and they seem to participate in a ritual
dance or a procession.
In the right hand they sustain a lengthened object that it could be a mace
of war and of their left hand it hangs a round piece, also without
identifying, of which comes out a snake head.
