Listeros,
Mummies found in the La Ventana caves of Chihuahua and in a cave in
Durango have the bacterium Helicobacter pylori which causes ulcers
and can cause cancer. The mummies were buried around 1350 CE and this
is the first time that this bacterium has been found in Native
American populations. Researchers studied the bodies of one infant
male and one adult male. They studied the stomach, tongue soft-palate
and brains of the two naturally mummified corpses.
