[Aztlan] MA: archaeology of SE Campeche

Dear listeros,

 

I would like to inform you about a recently published monograph presenting
the results of six seasons of archaeological reconnaissance in southeastern
Campeche, Mexico. In the surveys accomplished in these formerly little known
central parts of the Yucatan peninsula since 1996, we have recorded about 80
previously unreported archaeological sites, including major urban centers
with large architectural complexes and sculpted monuments with hieroglyphic
inscriptions containing important historical data, as well as several caves
with vestiges of ritual activities. We have also managed to relocate several
major sites that were found in the 1930s by the expeditions of Carnegie
Institution of Washington directed by Karl Ruppert, but whose locations was
later forgotten (e.g. Oxpemul, Balakbal, Uxul). While a summary of this work
is presented on our website (http://gis.zrc-sazu.si/campeche), the book
contains an exhaustive presentation of field data, interpretations, site
plans and detailed maps of the area. Here are the title and contents:
