Hello,
I think the concept of deep time which one can derive from
the Grand LCs and the calculations far into the past and into the future
shows
that for the Maya time had no beginning and no end.
But in order to perform calculations they had to choose a "zero point"
on the
time scale. The starting point 13.0.0.0.0 had the advantage that they could
specify dates before the starting point in the usual LC notation.
This of course doesn't explain the 13 Bak'tuns.
A starting point of 10.0.0.0.0 would be just as good.
But this method has a serious drawback.
It spoils the uniqueness of the LC.
One needs the CR position in order to tell if for example
12.19.13.4.0
is before or after the starting point.
Best regards,
Roland Cruesemann
