An essay:
End of an Era -- Beginning of a New Era
is now available at
www.TraditionalHighCultures.com/Mayan_Downloads.html
It is item number 2. in the list.
It was stimulated in part by David Stuart's paragraph on changes in
Mayan studies, in the Sourcebook for the 2008 Austin meetings
and in pat by comments from a number of people who have been active
in Mayan studies for many years, some of them as second careers.
The goal is to encourage everyone to take advantage of new opportunities
rather than missing some traditions which have changed
or some opportunities which have disappeared.
Especially important may be some very conscious planning
to increase our opportunities in the future, and to strengthen
our international community which is such a valuable resource
(Mayan - Latin - Anglo - American and European).
For very long, it has simply been done for us without our having
to lift a finger.
I am grateful to all those who commented and illuminated various
aspects of the changes we are going through, and to those who made
some recommendations on earlier drafts. Of course all errors and
infelicities remain my own, and I hope people will be forgiving.
Best wishes,
Lloyd
