Listeros,

Almost half of all Native Americans in North, Central and South
America can trace their ancestry to 6 women who immigrated 20,000
years ago. The women did not live in Asia but in Beringia. The dates
for the women are open to question.
Yahoo News has the story here;

I have made a tiny URL here;

And here is where the original scientific paper is located;
PLoS One: http://www.plosone.org

This research comes at a time when genetic researchers in Alaska and
Washington State published data showing that humans were trapped in
Beringia for some 20,000 years before they could move into the New
World, thus particular genetic mutations happened there in that
population which do not show up in Asian populations but they do show
up in the populations of the New World.
