Follks:
Anthony Aveni identified one set of the pecks on the side of the Aztec Sun Stone as Ursa Minor. After seeing Karl Taube's avian/fire-serpents following a flower path (Milky Way) I decided to check it out.
What I foud is that the pecks are very accurate IF one begins with the head of Draco and continues down to the triangular hat of Ophiuchus.(but not the closed one, the hat was left open on one side. The other is just a diversion. The curved lines of star are the edges of the Milky Way, not the handle of Ursa Minor. Lyra is the only constellation that has an exact outline. All others are partial.
I have zipped the file and the only thing important to you all are pages number at the top as 02 and 2-A. 02 gives the approximate location of the pecks on the Sun Stone and 2-A has the stars named next to a sky chart from Professor Robbins book on Astronomy. Any comments by me are enclosed in [. . .] and {. . .}. The ( . . .) belong to the original author of the Sun Stone drawing. http://www.mayalords.org/aztecfldr/SunStone.zip.exe
