Sam,
Very little information concerning diseases of the
indigenous population exists prior to Columbus'
arrival in the western hemisphere. Any speculation
about disease from speculated arrivals is speculation
about speculation.
So why didn't the entire indigenous population of
North, Central, and South America die off after being
exposed to smallpox and the other diseases? Did some
have immunity? And why do we in some instances still
innoculate against smallpox and measles? Don't we all
have endemic immunity now?
We've been through this speculative discussion about
disease before on AZTLAN, and those interested should
search the archives.
