Hello all,
Can anyone tell me who is pictured in the sculptures at the top tegister of facade of the (pink) church in Jocotenango Guatemala? Jocotenango began as an Indian "reduction" in the 16th century, this structure probably dates from 18th C. The central figure is obviousl Mary (and the church is named for the Virgin), but there is a tiny figure at her feet in 16th c garb -- a conquistador? The encomendero for Jocotenango? And the saints flanking Mary are also a puzzle -- the woman on our left seems to have a flame like halo. I can send photos on request.
Many thanks,
