Dear Listeros, and David H.,
I hope this is the correct format for posting.
Request for submissions: Maya inscriptional errors
I have begun collecting examples of errors of calculation (and other types) in Maya inscriptions. I started with Lounsbury's Mesa Redonda articles on the topic, and I am aware that some of what might appear to be mistakes (for example in the Lord of the Night glyphs) seem to have been conscious and deliberate, and had an ulterior motive (presumably augural). If you would like to inform me about some of the possible errors you have encountered, I should be most grateful. I would be pleased to cite you, whether or not your collections are published.
Or if you would like to direct my attention to publications that I might have missed, I'd be grateful. Although arithmetic errors are the most-demonstrable, I believe an equal number of grammatical and other spelling errors exist, lying in wait to be brought into focus by the sharpening clarity of our interpretation.
Thanks in advance.
Yours glyphically,
Mark Van Stone
