Mario,

Cranial deformation is a common practice throughout all of the  
Americas from the far north to Tierra del Fuego. It was practiced by  
people in Central Asia as well so there may be a long term very  
ancient tie to Asian customs in the American variants found here- 
though it is a global phenomena.

The Maya carried out the same kind of sloping forehead cranial  
deformation as you described being carried out in the more northerly  
Americas. Sloping foreheads were also created in the ancient Andes  
and among an Ancient Southwest culture known as the Gallina. There is  
a lot of cranial deformation that took place in the Pacific northwest  
area and across the area north of the Rio Grande into the Eastern US.
