I just stumbled accross this masters thesis on ancient Maya musical instruments: "Ancient Maya Music Now With Sound" by Cameron Bourg (2005).

His thesis provides a much needed update to the subject, incorporating comments regarding the San Bartolo murals, archaeological discoveries at Jaina, Aguateca, Piedras Negras, and a general background on the classification and documentation of ancient Maya instruments.
