The web pages on Mayan Spelling Patterns have been updated,
newly clarified explanations throughout the main page:

***
There is a new page on "echo vowels",
and on consonants promoting "unpronounced" /i/ in
final syllabary signs tzi, tz'i, chi, ch'i, ti, t'i, ni, si, xi
(much text from one section of NEH Grant Report
Josserand and Hopkins 1991 is extracted and placed here:)

Other new references:
Lacadena and Wichmann 2008 on the spelling rules operating in
the writing of suffixes as well as roots
Tanaka 2008 on "echo vowels" in Mopan, and comparisons of
such vowels and writing conventions with
Japanese and Linear B, which also use syllabaries
***
There is a second newly added page giving the reasoning and typological
parallels linking consonant-vowel articulatory correlations
with syllable structure (current and in past time), and
with spelling patterns or conventions.

The Site Q chronology page was also updated a week ago with
corrections to the analysis of La Corona Panel 1,
concerning god names (?) prefixed by K'uhul Winik
(Stan Guenter's analysis).
