To follow up upon Elaine's email, I belive the word you might be looking for is "Patination".  In lithic analysis (as well as with metals), this indicates the surface of the object that has been exposed to the elements and has built up a "patina" (as opposed to freshly broken surfaces).  The term has a long history with archaeology and I'm sure you'll find useful references (on the web and in print) to determine if this is the exact term you are looking for.
