Lima. A Peruvian anthropologist claims to have found the tomb of
Atahualpa, the last Inca emperor, but his thesis is not yet supported
by the National Institute of Culture of Peru (INC), as reported this
Tuesday, the Lima newspaper Peru 21.
Natividad Vasquez said that after 30 years of research can ensure
that the body of Atahualpa, was murdered by the Spanish conquistador
Francisco Pizarro, is in a place called the windows of Jangalá, San
Miguel in the province's department of Cajamarca, so called for
archaeologists come to the excavations.
According to Vasquez, the windows of Jangalá, houses a complex of pre-
Inca, was the place to which the followers of the emperor took the
body of their leader after removing it from the chapel where he was
buried after being killed in 1533 in the city of Cajamarca , Capital
of the homonymous department. Some versions suggest however that the
remains could be in Quito.
However, for the head of the INC in Cajamarca, Eduardo Caceres, "we
can not say that there (in Jangalá) are the remnants of Atahualpa,
but neither can we deny anything because the area has not yet been
investigated," Caceres said Vasquez in their quest to find the place
even caused physical damage to the archaeological zone, so there is a
complaint against him in the Prosecutor's Office brought by the INC.
Atahualpa, who lived in Quito and whose civil war with his brother
Huáscar facilitated the conquest of the rule by the Spaniards, is
considered the last Inca leader, but the conquerors after killing him
put others in their place.
In one episode greatly missed in history, the thirteenth Inca
emperor, son of Huayna Capac, given the Spaniards rooms full of gold
and silver so that it does not kill. Although met, was executed. It
is estimated that was then 36 years.
