At the 10th International Congress on Health and Disease organized by  
INAH in Mexico City, dental specialist Socorro Ochoa Caceres stated  
that ancient Mesoamerican dentists knew about and used dental filling  
to avoid tooth loss. They knew how to insert files between teeth to  
fasten orthodontic devices. Jadeite, obsidian, flint, wood and  
vegetal fibers were used to modify and decorate teeth.
