I was in the Books/Magazine section of a large-box discount store (I won't
use Brand names) on Friday, September 21, and I stumbled on the 2008
National Geographic Collector's Edition, entitled, "mysteries of the Maya:
the rise, glory and collapse of an ancient civilization." It is beautifully
done, with 112 color pages and a pull-out poster entitled "Temples of the
Maya" with a spectacular picture of Uxmal's House of the Doves on the back.
Other notable items are pictures of Chichen Itza's Temple of the Warriors at
night, Tulum from the air, San Bartolo's Creation myth mural(s),
contemporary ceremonies, and many more. Well worth the $11.00 I paid for it.
Over the UPC Code, it says, "Display until 11/3/08."
Amazon says it's not yet available but it appears to be available from
National Geographic, although there is a long wait for it.
