[Aztlan] Whirlpools/Pantitlan

Thanks so much to everyone for their input! For years I have been totally fascinated with the possibility that somewhere in the Pantitlan area there is still a cache of wonderful Aztec-era artefacts.

The following is part of a letter sent to me off-list by our own, wonderful Bruce Rogers:

Most water "whirlpools" lack the strength to move much of anything any distance. The lake whirlpool is usually considered a Rankine Vortex.

See: <http://www.atmos.washington.edu/~lharris/vort505/vortanim1.html >

Take a look at the website and you'll see the the flow is concentrated within a radius of about the diameter of the whirlpool. Thus anything dropped into the whirlpool will essentially be dropped within that diameter. And normal lake silting will rather quickly cover up items thrown into the vortex.

I don't know if anyone else is interested in this particular topic, but I certainly am. So if anybody has any ideas, comments, etc., please let me know on-list or off.

Thanks again!

KIM
