Dear Matt,
Two indispensable references, which will also point you to much other relevant material:
Richard J. Chacon and Ruben G. Mendoza (eds), Latin American Indigenous Warfare and Ritual Violence (2007).
Richard J. Chacon and David H. Dye (eds), The Taking and Displaying of Human Body Parts as Trophies by Amerindians (2007).

Caroline

Subject: [Aztlan] cases of dismemberment/defleshing in Mesoamerica?
Hello all,
I'm writing a literature review on evidence for dismemberment and defleshing
in the archaeological record, as either a secondary mortuary ritual or a
form of trophy-taking/mutilation. Does anyone know of evidence for these
practices in Mesoamerica? If you could point me in the direction of relevant
publications, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Matt
