I read through Aveni's article and  wonder if these pecked cross  
patterns might also have been  used for individual person's fortune or  
astrology (for lack of better term) since the patterns themselves are  
like charts within which beans or corn or crystals could be thrown  
randomly and then interpreted.  Not knowing about the game boards he  
mentioned--quinze etc-- but in fortune telling from various traditions  
there is sometimes an existing pattern over which objects are placed  
and then "read" ( for instance the astrology chart with planets)   
Things like marriages, treaties, people's business prospects.....other  
ancient cultures consulted personal oracles....why not the  
Teotihuacanos and their comtemporaries?
