Listeros,

The best preserved Pre-Columbian site in Puerto Rico has been
uncovered and will give a major amount of information on the cultures
living there at that time. The site is either Taino and pre-Taino.
There are petroglyphs surrounding a huge plaza that may have hosted
ball games or other rituals. One of the petroglyphs contains a
combined frog/man figure. Graves with indivuduals buried face down
have been found. (in Mesoamerica, this usually meant burials of people
who were enemies or sacrificed). The huge number of artifacts being
uncovered date from 600 CE to 1500 CE. The site was uncovered when the
Army Corps of Engineers were building a dam. And there are fears that
the private company doing the excavation is not equipped for the
magnitude of the scientific excavation this requires.
