As much as I would love to attribute to the Aztecs the origins of the
tomato, it was in fact domesticated millenia before the Mexica left
Aztlan.  They merely provided the name for the Europeans.  The Nahuatl
name "tomatl" however, refers to the green husked tomato we call the
tomatillo.  The red, or brown or pink, tomato they called the "xitomatl."
