Hi -
Chekilli, the Head Chief of the "Upper and Lower Creeks" told their migration tale in 1725. From his description of the eruption of Sunset Vocano, their origin may be placed in the Three Rivers Petroglyph area, and the start of their migration from there set ca 1259 CE. The destruction levels and abandonments from their migration may be traced east.
It appears that Mushkogean red and white village couplings preserved this migration and assimilation.
In my opinion, Cahokia is sui generis, as it appears to have been a confederation of four(?4) major Southern Ceremonial Kingdoms. We often forget about these because their remains were destroyed during settlement. An example is the one in Saint Louis, which was originally known as "Mound City".
