A major study of Aztec calendars, arguing that their linear dimension is
more significant than their cyclical dimension, is:

Hassig, Ross
	2001	Time, History and Belief in Aztec and Colonial Mexico.
University of Texas Press, Austin.

Although most of his arguments are logical, they are difficult to
evaluate because he fails to cite the secondary literature where
calendrical issues are debated (see my review:
