Hello,
I ve realized that there are quite a view translations of the Popul
Vuh that differ slightly..
Within the english translations to be fond on the web i ve seen
allready quite some differences... No big ones... details... god
names.. trying to having corrected grama..
But the german translation i found is allready so deformed that some
things start to change the meaning a bit.
When is see this i wonder how acurat a translation from maya into
latin might have been when its allready deforming from english to
german.
How authentic is the popul vuh?
And how well are certain words translated? For example they tell about
the 2 boys..or the 400 boys..
Just changing the word boy to something else ..for example village or
tribe.. just hypothetical..would give certain passages a different
meaning.
Or when certain gods of the underworld are described.. is a god the
same as a ruler?
I wonder how far the popul vuh is based on hystorical facts and how
much is religeous content..
When they mention a black rain it sounds more like a real life report
than something visionary...
After big vulcanic eruptions or a big meteor impact the rain is black
for example...
I wonder especially about this introduction part.

What does the author wants to tell us with this?
And who is the author? The legend says some mayas traslated it into
latin.. Is that a true information?

Is this reffering to a technic how the glyphs have to been read ? Or
is it a kind description of "carefully bending the content" for
political reasons?
Or how would you interpretate such words?
I found this introduction to the actual text very interesting, as well
as the whole report.
Has anybody of you opinions regarding that item?
And maybe a literatur tip that discusses the item on a well founded
base?
thanks in advance again,
Sven Röhrig
