Your post reminded me of Thanksgiving this year. I went to the HEB get- together with a Native American Indian who had never gone before. 
What amazed her was that everyone sat down shoulder to shoulder with all colors, nationalities, shapes and wheelchairs, in complete harmony.
She was awed by it and, over and over again repeated how wonderful it was.
