It always catches my eye when the phrase "Native American Indian" is
used by non-native americans when referring to the indigenous
populations of the Americas. Currently, whenever these indigenous
people have joined together to create something of their own, almost
without exception they have called themselves "American Indians"-----
witness the Museum of the American Indian in washington D.C., The
American Indian Dance Company, etc. I can only wonder why "we" non-
indigenous persons keep calling "them," the indigenous persons by a
name that "they", left to their own devices do not use.
