Close to the last paragraph of Nick Hopkins post was an interesting conclusions:

The quote below is the best reference that anyone studying different cultures should make use of. Thinking 'outside the box' is a darned good way to understand the underpinning of a society, even though something does not seem to be relevant at the time. Along the way, usually, there will be another connection, but still not making much sense, but somewhere there is the "Why did I not think of that?" conclusion that must be reached in the final assessment.
