I thank Jerry Offner very much for his comments on multi-ethnic Texcoco.
This is a fascinating case, very relevant to the work I mentioned by
Grillo and Briggs. I must admit that I had forgotten this section of
Jerry's excellent book, Law and Politics in Aztec Texcoco. This is
really an important book, not cited nearly as frequently as it ought to
be (and now it's out of print!). I recommend the book to Aztlan people,
not just for the discussion of ethnic groups in Texcoco but for a whole
series of topics on Aztec political and legal dynamics.
