Don't worry Bertrand, you didn't hurt my feelings. We all have opinions and points of view, and being able to share them on Aztlan is what's great! While I agree with a lot of folks that maybe more precaution should have been used in the planning of this project, I still don't think it's a bad idea as long as it's done right, i.e. with no damage to the site and with a truly educational script to go along with the lights. Ah, also, the price for the night event is seperate from the daytime entrance fee.

And Miguel makes some valid points as well. But I have to say that in order to (in his words) get people "...conscious of the importance of the preservation of the past", we have to find ways to introduce them to that past. Visiting the sites, whether it be at night or during the day, is one of the best starting points. And of course the best form of preservation is total denial of access to EVERYONE, but that is NOT what cultural heritage preservation and understanding is all about. The world over, we are always looking for ways to make sites accessible while still maintaining their integrity.

And while it is true that INAH can't be everywhere and do everything, imagine where this country's historical places would be without such an institution. I shudder to think! I like to believe that most everybody at INAH is doing the best they can with what little financial resources we have.

At any rate, everything is all up in the air. I find it truly a shame that there is so much division about this (and/or reasons for division), as it could truly be a worthy project.

I think that's all I'll say about it, since it won't be long before somebody comes to a conclusion about yay or nay regarding the project. At that time, we'll all have seen it in the press.

Best to All,

KIM
