Let's see if this helps: From the Cordemex Dictionary of Maya, the root is lak', meaning "companion (compañero), fellow man, neighbor (prójimo)," etc. The prefix in- is the first person singular possessive pronoun, i.e. "my". The suffix -ech is the second person singular subject of non-verbal predicates, i.e., "you are". So the expression means "you are my companion/neighbor/etc."From the same source, etail is "close friend (amigo privado)," and ah etail is "friend, without saying whose (amigo sin denotar cuyo)".Hope that clears the air.Nick Hopkins
