Dear Listeros,
I'd like to extend an open invitation to the "Year 2012" forum at http://2012.tribe.net to all who wish to pursue or discuss issues related to the 2012 phenomenon. The "tribe" (as the forum is referred to on Tribe.net) was started in 2004 specifically for the purpose of exploring hypotheses, mythologies, and both natural and cultural phenomena related to 2012. Year 2012 has an archive of over 5000 threads on an exhaustive list of topics, from the esoteric to the mundane. Not surprisingly, it has also been especially germane to off-topic musings and heated debates on subjects ranging from recent discoveries to the nature of knowledge, belief, and reality itself.
I've been a regular participant for several years, mostly in a self-appointed role of resident skeptic, and became moderator last November. My moderation has been light, with a special emphasis on defusing or terminating ad hominem attacks. No ideas or beliefs are held sacred and every assertion is fair game for critique or ridicule. It's been my own experience that Year 2012 provides an informal yet valuable context for engaging individuals with beliefs and worldviews radically different from my own, thereby providing useful exercise in critical thinking.
You can participate anonymously if you wish. You can also control settings that allow you to receive posts as email or choose to read them exclusively online. Year 2012 is indexed by web spiders, so topics can be searched with Google and other search engines. For a sample of the kinds of topics that are discussed there, here's a link to a long thread on the subject of "Hunab Ku":

Subject: [Aztlan] Astronomical basis of Long-Count/2012 - Moderators' Note
Dear listeros,
We have received many dozens of posts on this topic over the last several weeks, months and years. While there are certainly new ideas that might be raised concerning this topic, a thorough gleaning of our archives will allow any interested scholar to contact those who may share their interests. Therefore, the Aztlan moderators request that those interested in the astronomical implications of the 2012 "event" please contact those who have previously posted on this subject directly.
The archives of Aztlan can be searched at the following address:
http://www.famsi.org/pipermail/aztlan/
While this is only a "request" (not a "rule"), we hope that Aztlan listeros will take into polite consideration their fellow list members who may not wish to follow this debate, and consider responding to previously archived posts off-list.
