Estimados Listeros,
We have received a few comments over the years regarding the forwarding of CC'd individuals' email addresses to the list.
In other words, some members have sent messages to Aztlan that were also addressed to other friends or family, and those other individuals are then included in the Aztlan post for all Aztlan members to see and reply to.
Unfortunately, the listserv software in use by FAMSI and Aztlan does not permit the moderators to edit any portion of a posted message (including both the headers and the body). We can only "approve" "discard" or "reject" submitted messages.
Therefore, please treat the Aztlan list just like any other individual recipient. The 1000+ Aztlan members will see all other recipients in the "To" or "CC" lines of your emails. And if any list member responds by clicking "Reply ALL" to your message, then all of the original recipients will receive their response.
Therefore, the responsibility rests upon the *sender* to only "CC" those individuals who have already agreed to participate on Aztlan, OR whom they know are interested in that particular topic being discussed openly with the many individuals on Aztlan.
But there is another option...
A "BCC" (or "blind CC") is a highly suggested method for messages you wish to send to one party, but not let them see the addresses of a second party.
Friends and family should be typed into the "To" or "CC" line, while listservs would be placed in the "BCC" line. Those listed in the "BCC" only see your return address, not their fellow recipients.

We hope this will avert some confusion in future threads.
Sincerely,
The Aztlan Moderators
