Folks:

Do the hard facts tell the real story of ancient astronomy? Although a very serious event was recorded, both as a stellar event and as a source of power for the rulers, so far, no scholar except Linda Schele, the Maya epigrapher, believed enough in it to even call attention to the event. She called it "Star Wars." Those that worked with her on this theme, feel that she covered all aspects of it and there is nothing left to do. However, the festivals, the codices, the monuments, and the stelae, plus the traditional lore of native population still have a wealth of data, not yet translated, concerning this strange event.

By “not yet translated,” I mean that the idiomatic phrases used to describe this event are multiple descriptions that relate to ethnic concepts within various countries around the world. They have a great variety of mnemonic aids to make a dull story about astronomy into an interesting, vibrant story for all, from the youngest to the oldest to recall. Some of these descriptive phrases are "fun," some of them are prophetic warnings, while others are just plain descriptions of what actually occurred once upon a time. But few are recognized as a real, physical world event, no matter how detailed the metaphors.
