Listeros,
A Maya stela has been discovered at the Site of Quebrada de Oro in
Belize. The site is part of the Bladen Branch group in the Maya
Mountains and was thought to be the only site in that group not to
contain a stela. The stela may be a commerorative monument and/or a
"sign" of the site itself or a monument erected to show a shift of
authority at the site.
This discovery at Quebrada de Oro suggests the site had a much more
important role to play than was previously recognized and new
excavations will now take place at the site.
Mesoweb posted the story from "Antiquity" journal;
