Is there any evidence that the ball game was associated with human 
sacrifice?

In a communication about other topics, she wrote, “I’ve spent my entire 
career searching for the roots of commonly held ideas about the Maya 
(and other Mesoamerican peoples as well), including the crazy notion 
that the winners were sacrificed in the ball game (invented at Chichén 
Itzá, I think, /circa/ 1930).”

I asked her to clarify this, but did not receive a response.

What do you think she meant?
