I would just like to echo Elaine's comments, with one additional possibility...
Yes, the Tablet of the Sun (located in the "Cross Group" of Palenque, Mexico) was never broken nor distributed to any exhibition. However, the source of John's section of the Tablet could have been either a modern replica (if so - most likely made by modern artisans using the fine-grained native limestone of the Palenque area), or it could have been an historic replica from the plaster casts made during the early 20th century.
Tulane University has on display a plaster reproduction of the Tablet of the Sun that significantly predates the modern artisan carvings. As this Tulane version is a reproduction from an original mold, it is possible that other pours exist. Tulane also is a repository for many Uxmal plaster casts from the 1930's.
