Most of the influence on the Southwest emanating from Mesoamerica took  
place from 900-1200 AD during the Toltec era when the Turquoise Road  
developed. There is much material on the Turquoise Road and Ancient  
Southwest/Mesoamerican trade on my web page below. It is a fascinating  
period in history. Mississippian cultures from Florida to as far north  
as Oklahoma at the Spiro site were in possession of Mesoamerican  
objects from the Maya area and from the Central Highlands. This trade  
network was also in its prime during the 900-1200 AD period.
