[Aztlan] Chilam etymology

I¹ve read a couple different meanings for the word ³chilam² in regards to
the Chilam Balam. I¹ve read that it literally means ³mouth piece² (Mouth
Piece of the Gods) which is then further translated as ³interpreter²
(Interpreter of the Gods). [chi = mouth....lam = ????]

I know this was the title given to the person whose responsibility was to
write the sacred books. But this person didn¹t just ³interpret² what the
gods were saying he also wrote it down. Thus could the proper translation be
more like ³Transcriber of the Gods²?
