[Aztlan] Province of Amichel (Am Ix Chel?)

Since Ix Chel is a waning moon goddess would her symbol be the crescent moon
(or crescent moon and star)? I keep finding this symbol in places where the
Maya had known (and suspected) trade contacts. When I find the crescent moon
and star I invariably find the feathered serpent and corn in the same
culture. (And usually canals as well.) Any reason these ideas are joined in
Mayan thought?
