Hello list,

Every few years a site seems to come along which sparks interest in the
abandonment of archaeological sites (generally the interest is caused by
sites with supposed "rapid" abandonment). A few years ago Takeshi Inomata
and myself, initiated by our own research at the time, edited a volume
dedicated to abandonment as an archaeological process. Included are studies
of sites throughout the region- from La Quemada to Baking Pot- and from very
rapid/unplanned abandonment (e.g., Aguateca and Xochicalco) to slow/planned
(Teotihuacan) as well as commentary chapters.

So, if you are interested in the topic here is the following bibliographic
citation available from several sources, such as amazon.com:

Inomata, Takeshi and Ronald W. Webb (eds.)
2003 *The Archaeology of Settlement Abandonment in Middle America*.
University of Utah Press: Salt Lake City.

O.k.... it's a shameless plug for the volume but I think valid given the
likely excitement the research at Kiuic will possibly generate.

Saludos,
RW
