Dear Elaine,

I have certainly seen this image many times before, but I cannot yet find the source in my personal library.  However, for those interested in similar maps may I suggest the following publications --

Arqueologia Mexicana Vol. VI - Num 33 --  "La Navegacion entre los Mayas" pages 21 (entire Maya area), 34-35 (Pacific Coast of Chiapas)

Ramon Pina Chan -- (1978) "Commerce in the Yucatan Peninsula:The Conquest and Colonial Periods" printed in the NWAF publication "Mesoamerican Communication Routes and Culture Contacts" (NWAF pub. #40) edited by Lee and Navarrete (available for free as a PDF on the New World Archaeological Foundation website as a page-by-page PDF download).

It is very likely that the image Elaine requested is based partially upon the Pina Chan map.

Subject: [Aztlan] Map Identification/Reference

Greetings All,

The link below leads to a map that has been posted to the Internet on
several webpages, but none of the posts tell of the map's origin.
Does anyone know what publication it was originally from or who the
map maker was?
