Sid Hollander kindly pointed out to me privately that I had goofed
in an earlier message, and he is quite right.
If we are trying to be accurate in our postings to this list,
I don't want my error to stand without correction.
(I was focused on beginnings and ends of even century years,
and mentally corrected myself one too many times.)
In our standard Gregorian years of today,
those divisible by 4 are leap years (so result averages 365.25 days per
year),
but those divisble by centuries are not
(so take out 1/25 of the leap days, result averages 365.24 days per year),
but those divisible by 400 years are leap years
(so add back in 1/4 of those just removed, result averages 365.2425 days
per year).
The actual astronomical value of the average is around 365.2422
if I remember correctly.
No civil calendar is ever perfect, since it uses only whole days.
Best wishes,
Lloyd
