Hello all,

I have been following this story and want to thank Mike for posting the original. It is very sad to see that there is just one way up to Machu Picchu. I hope in the following months they keep an eye on the site via choppers or whatever for any kind of looting. I also hope that some of the other sites in Peru are now upgraded to allow for tourist and that the Peruvian Govt. sees the error in "putting all their eggs in one basket"..
Thank you for your time, Al Climber Cortez

  Listeros,

All of the tourists who were stranded in the vicinity of Machu Picchu due to torrential rains destroying the rail tracks have been airlifted out and the site will be closed till further notice.
