Death Gods, Smiling Faces and Colossal Heads is hosted by Richard A. "Dick"
Diehl, Professor Emeritus of the University of Alabama. Death Gods is
designed to bring the archaeology of the region to the English-speaking
public by posting short illustrated essays on archaeological sites, museums,
research projects, personalities, as well as an annotated bibliography of
new publications and other things. This initial posting includes essays on
the archaeological site of El Zapotal, an account of the Fisherman's
Treasure, a biographical sketch of archaeologist Gordon Ekholm, and an
annotated bibliography of recent publications dealing with the region.
Future posting will include a detailed look at the site of La Mojarra,
biographical sketches of Ramon Arellanos M., Robert Santley and other
archaeologists, and many other offerings. Click to view more
