Restall notes the mythical "Snatch Bat" in his Popol Vuh. Its wings are decorated with
eyes which had been plucked out.

Some unlucky Xiu emissaries were similarly treated by the Cocomes post-Conquest.

I am bashing away at a work of fiction which will involve this savage act, either in myth or actuality. I would be delighted to receive any further references about this topic from any Maya time or region.
