Gary, The Spinden chart is from 1928 so, of course, it is outdated and
inaccurate. Many of the figures in the Spinden chart are also in the
Thompson examples that I cited in my previous posting, but Thompson
gives you the source of the illustration and its context so you know if
you are at least comparing apples to apples.
Starry Deer Crocodile-Starry Deer Alligator, Cosmic Monster, and Milkway
crocodile are all nicknames for the same beast.
The consensus is that the T510 sign (and its variations) is a generic
symbol for a star or planet in certain contexts.
There is NO evidence that Cipactli was associated with Venus.
I think there is significant evidence that the Maya saw the Milky Way as
a celestial river inhabited by a crocodile, and that the black rift of
the Milky Way represented the mouth of this crocodile. If you are going
to make the argument that Cipactli was parallel to the Maya Milky Way
crocodile then you will have to find evidence that the Aztec also saw
the Milky Way as a river with a crocodile in it and that they identified
Cipactli as that crocodile. I know of no such evidence.
