[Aztlan] Star symbol in Lintel 41 Yaxchilan, Chiapas?

On page 431 of J. Eric Thompson¹s ³A Catalog of Maya Hieroglyphs² is a
photo of Lintel 41 from Yachilan, Chiapas. In the headdress of the prominent
figure on the right appears a symbol consisting of a 5-pointed star
surrounding a central cup-and-ring design. (cup-and-ring = concentric
circles surrounding smaller central circle/dot).
Is this what it appears to be: a star emblem or symbol? Are cup-and-ring
designs a common way of representing stars among the Maya?

I know this was a common way of drawing stars in other parts of the world,
the best example being this Mesopotamian stele:

I¹m just trying to find out if the Maya also used cup-and-ring designs to
signify stars?
