Es interesante tener en cuenta el impacto de la cosmología europea sobre la audiencia maya, dado el nivel del conocimiento astronómico representado en los códices mayas que han llegado a nuestros días. Hacia el siglo dieciséis, las teorías astronómicas europeas se habían vuelto muy enrevesadas en un intento por reconciliar las escrituras con las enseñanzas de Aristóteles y Ptolomeo, como así también inexactas en la predicción de las posiciones de los planetas.187 Sin embargo, nuestro autor aquí intenta explicar las once capas de los cielos como fueran descritas por los padres de la Iglesia y por los astrólogos de la corte del rey Alfonso X de Castilla.188
Comienza con el nivel más alto, el Empíreo, el cielo brillante, inamovible, que es el sitial de Dios. Por debajo de éste, la décima capa es llamada el Movedor Primero, donde está sentado kin, el día. Dios creó esta unidad de tiempo el primer día, y puso en ella al Movedor Primero, que cambia cada veinticuatro horas, debido a un ángel (ms. pág. 181).189 La capa que está por debajo del Movedor Primero, la novena, es llamada Cristalino, y el autor le presta suma atención.
Al segundo día, según el Génesis 1:6-9, Dios creó el Firmamento y dividió las aguas, y puso algunas aguas encima de éste, y otras debajo de éste. Se entiende aquí que el Firmamento es la octava capa de los cielos, la que contiene a las estrellas. Las "aguas" sobre el Firmamento se transforman en la capa Cristalina de los cielos. Debido a que el agua es mutable, y según Aristóteles nada mutable hay en los cielos, estas "aguas" deben ser transubstanciadas. El autor las compara con la vara de Moisés que se transforma en serpiente, y con el pan consagrado que se transforma en el santo sacramento. De ahí que el Cristalino es como agua fundida, o como el vidrio sobre un espejo, y protege la vista del hombre del brillo enceguecedor del Empíreo (ms. págs. 183-184). Debajo del Firmamento están los planetas, cada uno en su propia capa, divididos en movimientos y epiciclos que se llaman acéntricos y concéntricos "en lengua Romance" (ms. pág. 182).
A continuación, el autor se refiere a cada día de la creación descrito en el Génesis, y vincula aquello que fue creado con su lugar apropiado en los cielos. Así, el cuarto día Dios creó el sol y la luna, y puso al sol en la cuarta capa, mientras que la luna "está cerca, encima nuestro" (ms. pág. 187). El autor explica que la forma de las luminarias fue creada primero, antes que comenzaran a dar luz, todo lo cual provino de un relámpago dentro de una nube, argumento que le atribuye a Santo Tomás (ms. pág. 179). El punto de partida de Dios del ciclo de los días es el domingo. Sin embargo, debido a que el lunes es el día en que Lucifer cayó del cielo, se lo considera un día de mal augurio (ms. pág. 185).
A lo largo de esta explicación, el autor enfatiza las fuentes de estas enseñanzas, tanto en la verdad de las sagradas escrituras como en las especulaciones de los astrólogos. Parece probable que durante la presentación de este material se apoyara en una tabla de las once capas de los cielos, una ilustración como la que aparece en el Chilam Balam de Ixil.
